According to Kalugastat, as of January 1, 2012 the population of Kaluga Region amounted to 1008,2 thousand people.
Economically active population of the region (according to sampling surveys respecting employment issues conducted in August-October 2012) equals to 532,2 thousand people. The number of unemployed (according ILO method) equals to 23,9 thousand people, general unemployment level is 4,5%.
As of November 2012 the number of unemployed workers registered by Kaluga Region’s employment agencies equaled to 3398 persons, the registered unemployment rate is 0,62%.
Most part of employed population is engaged in material production (about 70%), where the main area of employment is manufacturing sector (about one-third of total employment in the economy). Kaluga Region automotive industry sector currently provides employment to over 12000 people. In the following years the sectoral structure of employment will change, which is associated with the restructuring of the economy.
The number of employed in the private sector will grow mainly due to the development of small businesses, private sector employment rate will be around 50% of the total employment.
Labor market policies in the forecast period will be aimed at ensuring the balanced employment pattern, achieving a balance between workforce and jobs openings, workforce capacity development and an increase in labor mobility.
A regional target program aimed to promote employment was launched in Kaluga Region in order to improve the functioning of the regional labor market and to promote effective employment.
