Banking system
The banking sector of Kaluga Region is rather developed due to significant number of branches and representative offices of federal banks (mainly Moscow banks), which are actively expanding their service networks in the region. Thus, as of January 1, 2010 the banking sector of Kaluga Region is represented by four regional lending institutions, 27 branches of lending institutions from other regions, including six branches of Srednerussky Bank of Sberbank of Russia. The region also has four representative offices, 70 out-of-the-office cash counters, 142 supplementary offices, 37 operating and 10 lending and cash services offices.
One of the key factors in expanding the availability of banking services is the growth of the banking sector resource base and primarily of its capital base.
While there is a rather high aggregate level of banking services availability in the region, the majority of banking outlets are located in the major cities of the region.
Today only 5 region-based banks operate in Kaluga. But even this small figure allows Kaluga Region along with the Tula region to be ranked fifth or sixth among 16 regions of the Central Federal District (excluding Moscow and the Moscow region) for the number of operating regional banks. That clearly confirms the dominant position of big national banks.
